lifemadelight

Life Made Light (2015-2020) was a personal blog (now archived) that originated as the zero waste and minimalist Instagram account @lifemadelight.

Life Made Light documented the process of understanding why consumerism, fast fashion and capitalism are problematic; and why trying to self-actualize through material objects will always be an inadequate way to address what is ultimately an intangible issue (spiritual, emotional, psychological); and as a result, will produce a lot of physical waste/garbage that is harmful to the natural world (such as that experienced through plastic pollution).

This formative project led to the realization that participating in digital systems, such as those of social media, was another form of consumerism, and thus was not something I wished to engage with. Life Made Light led to the creation of Fold and Fray, a slow-fashion, vintage clothing store, designed as a pragmatic way to mitigate problems associated with plastic microfiber shedding, fast fashion, and gender normative shopping.
